Confusion reigns here at Invesco field! So far I haven’t heard a single person say a single thing definitively. From the moment we stepped through the security perimeter, various employees have vied for our attention by giving us contradictory information. Up in the blogging area, Dan is hearing that Bruce Springsteen will indeed perform. Down here in the Media Filing Center, deep in the bowels of Invesco Field, we’ve been handed copies of today’s schedule reading “REVISED Thursday @ 2 PM”. According to this schedule, no Bruce. So far the musical entertainment has been provided by Yonder Mountain String Band, much to my delight, though nobody else seemed aware that there was even music going on. Jennifer Hudson just sung the national anthem, with an expectedly pyrotechnical bent and a big pop modulation before the final phrase. will.i.am and John Legend will follow a tribute to MLK, presumedly playing “Yes We Can”, and shortly afterwards Sheryl Crow will be on the stage. Between Bill Richardson and Al Gore I expect to lose consciousness during a performance by Stevie Wonder. It’s hard to think of anybody that can top Steveland, and it seems the DNC is trying to reinforce that notion; at 7:00 local the final musical guest of the night will be Michael McDonald, at which point I will light myself on fire.
